From these two works, therefore, we can gather that Buttimer’s interests lie in a non-Anglo-centric view of social geography. Much of her further research has concentrated on social spaces and urban planning, from the point of view of sustainable development. Her own ‘brand’ of social geography, recently, extends as far as suggesting sustainable ways of living, and creating dwellings, so that the environment is protected. Her approach to the field of geography, in this manner, is thus extremely holistic; perhaps one can go so far as to postulate that she holds this world-view, and brings this world-view to her work, because she is a Nun (she is actually Sister Anne Buttimer). Her work, therefore, is informed by her personal beliefs and by the insights these personal beliefs bring to her research.
